Greece 2021: Delphi

We stopped at the Achaia Clauss Winery in Patras on the way to Delphi for a tasting
Great lunch view of the Rio–Antirrio Bridge at Distinto Rio
Ruins at Delphi
View from our Delphi hotel balcony
When I realized we were only a 90 minute drive from Thermopylae, I got up early and drove by myself to visit the battlefield. This is a memorial to the Greeks who died in the battle.
Kolonos Hill, where the last of the 300 were slain
Memorial plaque on the hill: “You stranger, go to the Lacedaemonians [Spartans] and let them know that we lie here, faithful to their laws.”
Thermopylae is an ancient name meaning “hot gates,” where gates refers to the mountain pass, and hot refers to the thermal springs. The springs are still there, you can see the steam rising in this picture.
